In the hills of Umbria, in the province of Perugia, Italy, lies an elegant, holistic resort set in a thousand-year-old estate. Amids olive groves, oak woods and flower-filled meadows, nature is the main protagonist. For those who stay here, it is as important to experience the beauty of an unspoilt landscape as it is to breathe in the silence of this magical corner.
Noise equals discomfort
However, even in the most authentic nature, acoustic discomfort can lurk.
This was the case at this resort, where noise from air handling units and heat pumps was causing issues outside the building. Aiming to restore the resort’s guests to the sound of nature and relaxing views of the landscape, Lindab designed a bespoke solution that harmonized with the surroundings.
"The objective of this project was to ensure optimal acoustic comfort in the outdoor area. The challenge was to eliminate both incoming and outgoing noise from the ventilation system," says Chiara Serra, Engineer of Lindab Italy’s technical department.
Lindab's experience became the solution
To ensure acoustic comfort in the external area of the facility, Lindab planned to use silencing baffles of different sizes, both at the air inlet and at the outlet. This solution helped reduce the high noise levels emanating from the machines. Lindab's experience in acoustics, the reliability of the laboratory data, the ability to simulate the actual performance of the silencers digitally, and the technical service team were all contributing factors for the success of this project.
